The Shepherdsville Police Department mourns the loss of K9 Officer Barry. Barry died as a result of an illness on October 6th, 2009. Barry was a 9 year old Dutch Shepherd and a former member of the Louisville Metro Police K9 unit. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the messages of support and condolence during this difficult time. Earlier this year, SPD was saddened by the loss of K9 Officer Jordy, a 5 year old Belgian Malinois, as the result of a tragic accident. K9 Units respond to situations calling for trained police dogs which include building and area searches, evidence/property recovery, tracking and apprehending of suspects and searches for narcotics and hazardous devices.
